Teaching XR in the Upcoming Academic Year (faculty roundtable)

This IXAlliance roundtable brings together faculty, researchers, and program leaders for an open discussion about teaching XR in 2026 and beyond.

Rather than formal presentations, this session will be an opportunity to share syllabi, teaching strategies, successes, challenges, and emerging best practices with colleagues from across the IXAlliance community.

Speaker: Daniel Pillis, Immersive Storytelling Club

This talk explores what it means to build virtual world models that account for the full range of human sensory experience, including touch, smell, sound, memory, and prior experience. Drawing on research at the intersection of spatial AI, XR, and cognitive science, Daniel Pillis will examine how multisensory data can be captured, structured, and used to create more meaningful virtual environments.

This faculty roundtable invites educators working across XR, immersive media, and emerging technology to share approaches, challenges, tools, and curriculum ideas for the upcoming academic year. The session will create space for peer exchange around teaching immersive experiences, supporting students, and adapting to a rapidly changing field. It will also support member educators who are planning to participate in the Social Impact BuildFest in 2026-2027.
